Nominated for an Oscar, Golden Globe, Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. Winner of Goya (2006), Cesar (1990), Silver Bear (main prize of the Berlin Film Festival, 1999). Chairman of the jury at the 60th Cannes Film Festival.
