Born December 29, 1959, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA is an American actress and producer.

Patricia's great-grandfather was a Spaniard who came to the United States from Barcelona. Clarkson studied drama at Fordham University in New York, and after graduation she entered Yale School of Drama with honors, where she graduated with a master's degree.

Clarkson first appeared on television in 1985, and two years later made her film debut in Brian De Palma's The Untouchables (1987), starring Kevin Costner and Sean Connery. In 1986, she performed for the first time on Broadway in the play House of Blue Leaves, and a year later she reappeared there in the play Eastern Standard.

In 2002, Clarkson appeared in the HBO series The Customer Is Always Dead as Aunt Sara, whom she played in seven episodes over the next three years. The role also earned the actress two Emmy Awards in 2002 and 2006. In 2003, Clarkson received good reviews and a special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival for four films in which she starred: The Baroness and the Pig (2002), All the Real Girls (2003), April Party (2003) and "Stationmaster" (2003). In the same year, she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in April Holiday (2003), in which she played Joy Burns.
