Born March 7, 1972, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France - French director, screenwriter, producer and actor.
Graduated from the Philological Faculty of the Sorbonne in Paris. He worked as a journalist and then as an assistant director.
In 1993, Xavier Giannoli made his debut in the short film The Condemned, which was created by Philippe Leotard. One of the director's short films, Interview with Mathieu Amalric in the title role, won the Palme d'Or at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival for Best Short Film and the Cesar Prize for Best Short Film.
In the early 2000s, Giannoli shot music videos and commercials, and produced two directorial works by Olivier Assayas: Demon Lover (2002) and Purification (2004).
In 2003, Xavier Giannoli directed his first full-length feature film, Les corps impatients. Giannoli's melodrama "When I Was a Singer" 2006 about the love of an aging singer and a young attractive girl with the participation of Gerard Depardieu and Cecile de France became the director's first full-length film to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival.
In 2009, Giannoli's film "All over again" was released, starring Francois Cluse and Emmanuelle Deveaux. The film competed for the Palme d'Or at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the 2010 Cesar Film Awards in 11 categories, including Best Picture and Best Director.
2012 Giannoli Comedy Drama Superstar participated in the 69th Venice Film Festival and competed for the main award - Golden Lion.
In 2015, Xavier Giannoli presented in the main competition program of the 72nd Venice Film Festival his new biographical film about the life of the American singer Florence Foster Jenkins "Margarita", which won the festival prize.
