Born June 1, 1948 in Snyder, Texas, USA.
After thoroughly preparing for an acting career at Southern Methodist University, Powers spent several years in local theater before appearing on television, playing a microscopic role in "Cruising" in 1981.
But the very next year he won an Emmy for his performance as the Reverend Jim Jones in the television film The Guyana Tragedy.
And a year later, Powers joined the "classic detectives club", getting the role of private detective Philip Marlowe in the television series.
