Michael Caine - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, Actor, Producer.

Born March 14, 1933, London, UK - British actor and producer.

I studied poorly at school, at the age of 16 I dropped out of school and, having changed several professions, went under a contract to serve in the army, in the British Expeditionary Force in Korea. After military service he worked as an assistant administrator in one of the theater companies in Sussex County.

Since 1955, after graduating from evening acting courses, performed on the stage of provincial theaters, since 1957 starred in television shows, in which by the end of the 1960s he played more than 100 roles.

At the beginning of his acting career he used the stage name Michael Scott, but later changed it to Michael Kane. In one of his books, Kane writes that this pseudonym was chosen by him completely by accident. He was asked to give a pseudonym during a conversation with an agent in a telephone booth. Turning around, he saw the poster for the film "Riot on the Kane" and did not hesitate to say that name.

Outside the set, the actor always used his real name.

At the age of 30, Kane achieved international acclaim playing an aristocratic lieutenant in the 1964 film Zulu. On the recommendation of Sean Connery, he was cast in The Ipcress Dossier, starring Harry Palmer, the eccentric bespectacled spy-ladies' man who later became the prototype for Austin Powers. In the 1966 film "Holly", the viewer observes the love affairs of the handsome blue-eyed blonde, whose role is played by Kane. For this role, he was first nominated for an Oscar. Kane's first American film was "Gambit", in which his partner was the famous American actress Shirley MacLaine.

If the main feature of Kane's roles in the 1960s was inner nobility, then at the turn of the seventies he starred in two highly successful comedies: Pandora's Box and The Italian Robbery (1969). In 1971, Kane appeared in the role of a violent gangster in the film "Remove Carter" based on the novel by Ted Lewis (by the way, he appeared in a small role in the remake of this film, which was filmed in 2000).

In 1972, he starred opposite Laurence Olivier in the tense detective "The Game Through" (originally "The Detective") based on the play by Anthony Schaffer and was again nominated for an Oscar. 35 years later, in 2007, Kane will reprise his role in the remake of The Investigator opposite Jude Law, this time as the old writer Andrew Wyck.

Starting in the second half of the 1970s, Kane was often accused of being promiscuous in his choice of roles. Many films with his participation failed miserably, but there were also some artistic successes: the role of an alcoholic professor in "Raising Rita" (1983) and a professional adventurer in "Dirty Swindlers" (1988) won the Golden Globe, and the role of the financier Elliot in Woody Allen's film Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) won him an Oscar for his supporting role. In 1988, Kane played the detective Sherlock Holmes (more precisely, the mediocre alcoholic actor who portrays Holmes for the hire of Watson) in the farce film Without a Single Evidence.

In 1992, played the role of Ebenezer Scrooge in A Muppet Christmas Carol, a free-form adaptation of Dickens's story. According to Kane himself, this is his favorite movie role. In the 1990s, his talent began to be rewarded with awards. He won the third Golden Globe for The Voice (1998), the second Oscar for his role in The Winemakers' Rules (1999) .

In 1992 he published his first autobiography - "What is it all about?"

1995 brought the actor a role in the Canadian action movie "Express to Beijing", which was once described by Kane as "the worst professional experience of his career."
In 2000 was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

Again nominated for an Oscar for the lead role in the drama The Quiet American (2002).

In the blockbuster series about Batman directed by Christopher Nolan - "Batman Begins" (2005), "The Dark Knight" (2008) and "The Dark Knight Rises" 2012) - Kane played the butler Alfred.

Kane's recent films include Austin Powers' father Nigel Powers in the third spy movie (Austin Powers: Goldmember, 2002), a retired cartoonist in the science fiction movie Child of Man (2006), and an elderly illusion engineer in another Christopher Nolan movie, Prestige "(2006).

In 2007, the film "The Detective" was released, in which Kane played the writer of detective novels Andrew Wyck. In 2010 he wrote his second autobiography - "The Elephant in Hollywood".

After celebrating his 80th birthday in March 2013, Kane announced that he would end his acting career at 90. During this decade, according to the actor, he is eager to get the third Oscar statuette.
