Born September 15, 1976 in Johannesburg (South Africa). Studied filmmaking at AFDA and the New York Tisch School of the Arts. In Hush, he co-wrote and directed the 8-minute short film The Birth of a Catastrophe, a film adaptation of Roald Dahl's short story. The film has been screened at many festivals around the world and won Best Short Film at the 2000 Austin Film Festival. Libesman also won the Young Hollywood Award for Best Director at the 2000 Hollywood Film Festival. In 2002, at the age of 26, he directed his first feature film, Darkness Comes. Despite the fact that the film received mostly negative reviews, it became number 1 in the American box office. The film grossed over $ 32.5 million in the US and nearly $ 15 million worldwide. The film was nominated for Best Horror / Thriller Movie at the 2003 Teen Choice Awards. In 2007, it was announced that Liebesman would direct the remake of Friday the 13th, but in November 2007, director of the 2003 remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Marcus Nispel, replaced Libesman in that position. In 2008, Libesman completed his third feature film, Death Room, starring Chloe Sevigny, Nick Cannon, Timothy Hutton and Peter Stormare. In February 2012, he began negotiations to direct a film about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In March, negotiations with Libesman were successfully completed. The film is produced by Michael Bay's production company Platinum Dunes. The US premiere was originally scheduled for Catholic Christmas on December 25, 2013, but later shifted to May 16, 2014.
