Born April 20, 1976, Hamburg, Germany - German film director and screenwriter.

In Hamburg, while still a teenager, Daniel took part in a radio show and also worked as an editor for a youth magazine. He also played in the theater, with which he went on tour, studied drama and even published a play. After that, he left his home country and left Belfast (Northern Ireland). Two years later, Strain returned to Germany and began studying the basics of cinematography at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg Film School in Ludwigsburg, where he took a screenwriting course.

He wrote the script for a television series that was nominated for one of the most prestigious awards in Germany, and also directed a documentary about the life of rock star Nick Cave.

Daniel then moved to Los Angeles, where he graduated from the American Film Institute's directing program. In America, he created several video works that were nominated for the "ASC" award, and also wrote songs for local singers. Over the next three years, Strain made several short films, earned his hypnotist certification, and hitchhiked nearly the entire United States. He also appeared on the jury at the Kosovo Film Festival.

In 2000, Strain wrote for the half-hour horror short "Vergessene Ritter," directed by Thomas Gramppe. After that, in 2004, he directed the short film "Off Hollywood & Vine", and four years later he made his directorial debut in a feature film, according to his own script, he directed the dramatic thriller "A Necessary Death". The film was first shown in 2008 in Texas at the SXSW Austin Music and Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the AFI Fest a year later.

The premiere of Strain's second full-length film, The Last Exorcism of the Devil, took place at the 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival, and was released worldwide in February 2011. The project has grossed over $ 65 million at the box office and has been nominated for People's Choice Award, MTV Movie Award and two Independent Spirit Awards. He also won Empire Award and awards at the Toronto and Sitges Film Festivals.

In March 2013, Daniel presented his new film to the audience - the thriller "13 Sins", in which he not only took the director's chair, but also acted as one of the scriptwriters. The picture was released in wide distribution in 2014.
