Born April 26, 1962, Antwerp - Belgian film director and broadcaster.
Studied at the Department of Fine and Dramatic Arts in Brussels. Early in his career, he made several short films, and in 1993 he directed his first full-length film, Ad fundum (translated: gulp). In 1999, his second film was released - "Through the Eyes of a Killer" (English Shades), for which Van Loy himself wrote the script. One of the main characters of this film was played by Mickey Rourke. In 2003, Van Loy first became professionally famous with his film "Alzheimer's Syndrome" (Dutch. De Zaak Alzheimer), based on the detective novel of the same name by the Belgian writer Jeff Gerartz. This film became a blockbuster in Flanders and until 2008 was one of the most successful Flemish films of all time. In 2008, Van Loy directed The Loft, written by Belgian artist and screenwriter Bart De Pauw. The Loft was not only more successful than Alzheimer's, but in terms of the number of theater tickets sold, it is now considered the best film in the history of Belgian cinema. The Loft is so popular that remakes of the film were filmed in the Netherlands and the United States. An American remake called "The Loft" was filmed personally by Van Loi. As in the original version of the film, this version also features Belgian actor Matthias Schonarts.
Eric Van Loy has also hosted several famous game shows in Flanders such as: De Slimste Mens ter Wereld ("The smartest man in the world") and De Pappenheimers. In 2008 and 2009 he received the de Vlaamse Televisie Ster (Flemish Television Star) in the category for Best Presenter from the Flemish Television Academy. Wang Loi got married in 1993. He has one son. Van Loy lives in Antwerp.
