Born December 8, 1977, Antwerp, Belgian television and film actor.
He began performing on stage as a child - together with his father Julien Schonarts, he played in the play "The Little Prince". At the age of 15, he made his film debut, starring in the Oscar-nominated Belgian film Daens. After graduating from the Antwerp Academy of Dramatic Arts, he took part in the filming of several films. In 2008 Matthias Schonarts starred in the Belgian thriller Loft, which became the most successful film at the national box office.
He became internationally famous for his starring role in Michael R. Roskam's crime drama "Bychara", which was nominated for an Oscar in the category "Best Foreign Language Film" in 2012. For this work, Shanarts received the FIPRESCI Award for Best Actor at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Best Actor at the Austin Film Festival and the Acting Award Prize from the American Film Institute AFI.
In 2011 Matthias Schonarts took part in the filming of the film "Rust and Bone", the French director Jacques Audiar.
