Eric Overmeer - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, Writer, Producer.
Born September 25, 1951 - American screenwriter and producer.
He graduated from Reed College in 1973. He says his time in college helped him find and validate his identity as a writer.
Overmeyer wrote the scripts for the NBC crime series Slaughter Department from 1996 to 1999. He joined the show's crew as a writer for the fourth season. He became a Consulting Producer for the sixth season in the fall of 1997. He became the Supervisor Producer for the seventh final season in the fall of 1998. The series was based on the book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets by David Simon. Simon also worked as a writer and producer on the show's later seasons, and the two became friends. Overmeyer joined Law & Order as a consultant producer and writer for the twelfth season in 2001. He co-executive produced for the later part of the season. He remained in this position until he was promoted to executive producer for the fifteenth season in the fall of 2004. He left the show after completing the fifteenth season.
Overmeyer joined the Wiretap team as an advisory producer and writer for the fourth season in 2006. Overmeyer wrote the TV scripts for The Limits of Error and Fear, based on the stories he co-wrote with producer Ed Burns. Overmeyer was hired to replace George Pelecanos as writer and producer. Simon said that he was impressed by Overmeyer's writing work, especially in summarizing the story for The Margin of Error, as the episode is the pinnacle of the show's political storyline, but should also develop other storylines. As a member of the fourth season's writing staff, Overmeyer has been identified as controlling Jimmy McNulty's inner storyline and “cleverly articulating” some of his key scenes. Overmeyer left the team at the end of the fourth season. Overmeyer collaborated with Simon again on the HBO drama series Trimay. They created a series that follows the events in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Overmeyer is based in part in New Orleans and has drawn his experience towards "rich conversational tradition" in the city's stories. The show is focused on the working-class neighborhood and is smaller in scale than The Wire. Production of the first season began in November 2009 and Overmeyer worked on the show until it concluded with a fourth season in 2013. In the hiatus between the third and fourth seasons of Trimea, Overmeyer joined the crew of the HBO drama series Boardwalk Empire. He served as a co-executive producer for the fourth season until production resumed work on Trimay. While working on Underground Empire, Overmeyer reunited with his Wiretapping counterpart Dennis Lehane. He has also worked with screenwriters Steve Turner and Jennifer Ames. Overmeyer developed the original Amazon series Bosch, based on the novels by Michael Connelly. The project reunited him with actors Jamie Hector and Lance Reddick. The pilot was created in 2013. For his writing, Overmeyer brought together several of the writers he had previously worked with - Pelecanos from The Wire and Trimay, Turner and Ames from Underground Empire, and William N. Fords and Tom Smuts from Law & Order. The first season was filmed in 2014 and was released on February 13, 2015.
