Born August 16, 1960, Washington, USA - American journalist, screenwriter, and producer.
David Simon's journalistic career began with articles in the school newspaper. After graduating from college in 1983, he joined The Baltimore Sun newspaper, where he worked for twelve years. Simon was involved in crime in the newspaper.
In 1991, his first documentary book, Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets, was published, which tells about the work of police officers from the murder investigation department. Based on real stories from this book, the television series "Slaughter Department" was created, in which Simon acted as a screenwriter and then as a producer. Focusing on his work on the show, Simon retired from the newspaper in 1995. In 2002-2008, the detective series "The Wire", created by Simon, was released.
