Born October 9, 1972 - Belgian film director, screenwriter and producer.
Studied painting and contemporary art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. He graduated from the Institute in Amsterdam in 2005 with a master's degree in screenwriting.
Roskam's first job was a small newspaper, De Morgen, where he started out as a journalist and copywriter. Trying to achieve fame, Michael Roskam wrote the screenplay for the short film Hon and then Carlo in 2002. The latter was filmed in 2004 and won the Audience Award at the Leuven International Short Film Festival.
In 2011, director and screenwriter Michael Roskam presented to the public his debut film on the big screen - "Bychara" with Matthias Schonarts in the title role. In 2012, the film was nominated for an Academy Award and a Cesar for Best Foreign Language Film. Film critics enthusiastically received the film, and in the same year its creator was invited to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
In the film Obshchak Roskam invited Hollywood actors to appear: Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Matthias Schonarts and James Gandolfini, for whom the picture was the last in his life. The film premiered at the 2014 Toronto Film Festival. In 2017, Michael Roskam releases the crime drama Le Fidele, starring Schonarts.
