Born December 5, 1954, London, England, UK - English writer, playwright, screenwriter, actor, director and producer.
Father left Pakistan in 1947 after the outbreak of the Indo-Pakistani War. Mother is English. He studied at the Graduate School of Technology with David Bowie, then studied philosophy at the University of London.
Started as a playwright. Kureishi's fame was brought about by his first screenplays: they were used in Stephen Frears' films My Fair Laundry (1985) and Sammy and Rosie Do It (1987). The debut novel of the writer Buddha of the Suburbs (1990) was also a great success, was awarded the Whitbread Prize, and a television film was made based on it (music was written by D. Bowie).
In 2014, this picture was nominated for the European Film Academy Award for Best Comedy.
