Born March 26, 1970, London, England, UK - English film director, screenwriter, producer and playwright of Irish descent.
His mother and father returned to Galway (where his father was from), while Martin and his brother John (John Michael McDonagh) stayed in London, where they began receiving unemployment benefits at the age of 16.
Martin's brother, John, tried to become a writer. These attempts made Martin try to write himself. The first two dozen radio plays and scripts were rejected by the editors. But in 1997, success came: the play "The Beauty of Lynne", written a year earlier in eight days, was staged on Broadway and, in addition to fame, brought the author the theatrical awards "Evening Standard" and "Tony".
