June 10, 1911, London, England, UK - November 30, 1977, Hamilton, Bermuda (Bermuda) - English playwright and screenwriter.

Studied at Harrow and Oxford University, where he joined the University Theater Society. His play "First Episode" (First Episode), written in collaboration with F. Heyman, was staged by a professional theater in 1933, but was hardly noticed by critics. Rattigan did not lose heart, dropped out and left for London, hoping to succeed in the theater field. The first success came in 1936 with the production of the farcical comedy "French Without Tears", which withstood more than 1000 performances.

In the United States, Rattigan's plays did not leave the stage for a long time. The Winslow Boy (1946), a touching drama about a father trying to restore his son's good name, won a New York theater critics award in 1947.

Rattigan also wrote screenplays, including film versions of his own plays.
