Born January 10, 1942, Long Beach, California is an American film director and screenwriter best known for his revival of the Western genre.

Graduated from Michigan State University.

He made his film debut as a screenwriter for the picture "Hickey & Boggs" (1972). Three years later, his first directorial job was the action drama Street Fighter (1975), which takes place during the Great Depression. After the release of this film, they started talking about Walter as one of the most promising Hollywood directors and screenwriters.

In the 1980s, as a director created: "Duel" (1978), "Galloping from afar" (1980), "48 hours" (1982), "Red Heat" (1988), "Johnny Handsome" ( 1989), Geronimo: An American Legend (1993), The Lone Hero (1996). In addition, together with Richard Donner and Robert Zemeckis, he took part in the creation of the television series Tales from the Crypt. Walter Hill's last film work as a director was the crime drama No Discussion (2002), followed by another work on television - the Western Broken Trail, which was nominated for a Golden Globe in three nominations.

As one of the screenwriters, he took part in the creation of the films "Aliens" (1986), "Alien 3" (1992) and several others.

Known not only as a director and screenwriter, but also as a commercially successful organizer of filmmaking. In this field he started back in 1979, acting as one of the producers in his own film "Warriors" and Ridley Scott's film "Alien". This was followed by five parts of a popular story about alien monsters: "Aliens", "Alien 3", "Alien 4: Resurrection" (1997), "Alien vs. Predator" (2004) and "Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem" (2007) ).

Despite the fact that many of the director's films are popular with viewers, film critics are rather cool about Walter's work, which may be due to his adherence to the genres of horror and action that are not very popular among film critics.
