Born June 23, 1969, Washington, DC is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter.

He attended Walt Whitman High School. And in 1991 he received a diploma from the University of New York, where he studied at the Faculty of Film and Television. Even before university, Dobkin took his first steps towards his future film career, acting as an assistant producer in the horror film by American director John Schlesinger "The Believers." In parallel with his studies at the university, David worked at the studio "Warner Bros". A student film, 57th Street Serenade has been featured in numerous film festivals and won the CINE Eagle and Grand Prize at the famous 1992 Edinburgh Film Festival. After graduation, Dobkin went to develop his professional career in Los Angeles.

Dobkin directed his first feature film in 1992, and it was also Tony and Ridley Scott's first film, Scott Free, in which they did not direct. Joaquin Phoenix and Gregory Sporleder starred in the crime comedy about a series of murders in a small town. After the premiere of the film, Dobkin set about creating his next film, The Shanghai Knights, in which the legendary Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson were invited. The film was completed and premiered in 2003.

Two years later, in 2005, David Dobkin created the comedy "Crashers", in which he again invited Owen Wilson (with whom he collaborated on previous films), and American actors Vince Vaughn and Christopher Walken became his filming partners.

Dobkin continued to work with Vince Vaughn in the next comedy, which was released in 2007. Together with Paul Giamatti, Vaughn played the main role in the New Year's family tape "Fred Claus, Santa's Brother". And in the same year, Dobkin, together with his colleague director Craig Gillespie, completed work on another comedy - "Mr. Poop", starring Billy Bob Thornton.

David Dobkin temporarily suspended his directing and was involved in scripting and producing, and based on his stories, the films "Giant Conqueror" and "Ghost Patrol" were created, in which he also acted as an executive producer. He also became a producer of such films as "The Last Call", "I Want It Like You" and "The Judge" (his next directorial projects).

In 2011, Dobkin returned to directing and worked on episodes of the series "Friendship Sex" and in the same year presented the audience with the fantastic comedy "I Want It Like You". In September 2014, David Dobkin's drama, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall, starring The Judge, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. The film received mixed reviews from professional critics, although this did not prevent it from winning awards at various film festivals (Hollywood Film Festival Prize, Golden Globe, Critics' Choice and Oscar nominations).

Dobkin is currently working on his new films - the adventure series "Into the Badlands" and the fantastic action movie "Arthur and Lancelot".

David Dobkin is also famous as the creator of video clips for music performers, including Tupac Shakur, Elton John, Blues Traveler, Extreme, Sonic Youth, Robin Zander and many others.
