She was the third child in the family. Grace had an older sister, Peggy, a brother, John, and a younger sister, Lisanna. Her mother, Margaret Meyer, was a fashion model in her youth, and her uncle, George Kelly, is a famous playwright, Pulitzer Prize winner. The Kelly family lived in a luxurious mansion in Philadelphia. From childhood, Grace gained access to high society.
