Born July 5, 1950 - American musician, songwriter. Best known as the leader and vocalist of the group Huey Lewis and the News.
In the early 1970s, he was the lead vocalist and mouth harmonist with the San Francisco country rock band Clover. Sean Hopper played the keyboards, the leader was John McPhee. Then Nick Lowe, who believed that Clover would fit well in the British pub rock scene, convinced the band to move to England. The group quickly gained fans, even though they were few. Lowe then produced the band's first single, Chicken Funk, but eventually, after two albums on the Polygram label that failed to gain popularity, leader John McPhee left Clover for the Doobie Brothers and the band disbanded. The members returned to California. Prior to that in Britain, Lewis also played harmonica on the albums Labor of Lust by Nick Lowe and Repeat When Necessary by Dave Edmunds. He also wrote one of the songs for the aforementioned Dave Edmunds album. In California, Lewis and Hopper played at a bar called "Uncle Charles" in Marin County, where American Express was formed. The group released the single "Exodisco" (a disco version of "Theme From Exodus", the theme from the movie "Exodus"), but the single was not noticed by the public. In 1980, the group was offered a contract by the Chrysalis label, but he asked the group to change the name. The participants decided to call themselves "Huey Lewis & the News" .
