American alternative rock band from San Diego, California, existing since 1996. The band members are John Foreman (vocals, guitar), Tim Foreman (bass, backing vocals), Chad Butler (drums, percussion), Jerome Fontamillas (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals) and Drew Shirley (guitar). The group is known for developing the so-called "Switchfoot sound" - a dense sound, heavy guitar drive, embellished with beautiful electronic improvisations and light ballads. The name Switchfoot is a surfer's term that describes the process when a surfer changes legs in order to get a better position on the board. “We are all fond of surfing since childhood, so we perfectly understand the meaning of this term. "Switch foot" means to turn to the other side while standing on the board. So we meant a radical new approach to life and music.
