Born June 8, 1962, Birmingham, England - British musician, founder and keyboardist of Duran Duran.
As a child, according to Rhodes' mother, the boy was very curious and active. At school, he was not particularly zealous. Due to difficult relationships with the guys, he left there after the 9th grade. From the age of 16, Rhodes worked as a DJ in various Birmingham clubs, earning his own living, regardless of his parents. It was then that he changed his last name Bates to Rhodes (after the island of Rhodes). His passion for music began at the age of 11, when young Nick met his future colleague John Taylor. The guys quickly found a common language and, according to Nick's recollections, they appeared everywhere together.
In 1978, 16-year-old Nick and 18-year-old John, inspired by the work of Roxy Music and David Bowie, formed a group called Duran Duran (named after the evil Doctor Duran from Roger Vadim's movie "Barbarella"). Rhodes was the keyboard player and Taylor was the bass player. Little did they know then that their band would become one of the best bands on the British scene.
In 1985, along with drummer and vocalist Duran Duran, Roger Taylor, and Simon Le Bon, Rhodes formed his own band Arcadia. This project has become a kind of haven for his ideas and concepts. Despite the success, the group lasted only a year.
In 1986, Nick returned to Duran Duran after a vacation. He is the band's permanent keyboardist to this day.
In 1982, while touring in support of the Rio album, Rhodes met the daughter of an Iowa millionaire, Julie Ann Friedman. Having met for two years, on August 15, 1984, the couple legalized their relationship. After another 2 years, on August 23, 1986, their daughter Tatjana Lee Oukid was born, but the child did not save their marriage. Endless scandals and drug addiction Friedman led to divorce in 1992.
