He graduated from University of Miami College in 1956 and UCLA School of Law in 1964.
In 1969-1971, as the Los Angeles County Deputy Attorney, he represented the high-profile trial of Charles Manson and three girls from his "Family" who were accused of the murder of actress Sharon Tate and six other people. Bougliosi won the case, the defendants were sentenced to death, which was later commuted to life in prison.
In just eight years at the Los Angeles County Attorney's office, he has handled more than a thousand cases, and of 106 felonies, he won 105. In 1972, he ran for the Los Angeles County Attorney's office, and in 1974 year - for the post of attorney of the state of California, but both times lost the elections.
Shortly after Manson's trial, Bougliosi retired from public service and went into private practice, becoming a partner in the law firm Steinberg & Bugliosi. Bougliosi also wrote about high-profile cases in which he himself was not involved. In preparation for the show, Bougliosi spent five months studying the documents on the case. This research later formed the basis of the huge work History Recovered: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy (2007), in which Bougliosi attempts to prove that the killer was indeed Oswald, who had no accomplices, refuting various conspiracy theories. Another book "Outrage" (1996) was devoted to the trial of O. Jay Simpson's murder of his wife and her lover.
Bougliosi is known as a critic of the former US President George W. Bush. The book "The Betrayal of America" ??is dedicated to the decision of the US Supreme Court in the case "Bush v. Gore". The main idea of ??the book - the court's decision to stop the recounts in Florida, which were crucial for determining the winner of the 2000 presidential election, was illegal. In another book, The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder (2008), Bugliosi argues for the need to prosecute Bush for the murder of every American soldier who died in the Iraq war.
