Born October 11, 1941, Los Angeles, California, USA - American director, screenwriter and producer.

Graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Shyer began his career as an assistant to Harry Marshall and Jerry Belson on the set of The Strange Couple TV series. By the end of the 70s, Charles had achieved the position of the main writer and assistant producer of popular TV series. In 1977 he co-wrote the action comedy The Policeman and the Bandit, starring Bert Reynolds. The following year, he collaborated with Jack Nicholson, co-writing with Alan Mandel for his film Heading South and received a US Writers Guild Award nomination for Howard Ziff's Family Doctor.

In 1980, Charles Scheyer was nominated for an Oscar for his screenplay for the comedy Private Benjamin. Four years later, he made his debut as a feature-length director, directing Irreconcilable Contradictions with Ryan O'Neill, Shelley Long and Drew Barrymore.
