Charles Bukowski was born in the summer of 1920 in Baltimore, Maryland. Soon the Bukowski family changed their place of residence, moving to Los Angeles. The boy was brought up strictly from childhood - Charles's father was a military man, his mother worked in the sewing industry. Bukowski's relationship with peers did not work out. There were several reasons for this - the boy suffered from dyslexia and an unpleasant skin disease called acne since childhood. In addition to all this, he was very withdrawn, it was not easy for him to find a common language with other guys, so Charles came up with a rather useful and developing hobby - the guy spent all his free time in the Los Angeles library, reading any books that caught his attention.

So, after graduating from school, Bukowski enters a city college, but he was not destined to study there for long. A year later, he was expelled from there for drunkenness and misconduct. At the age of twenty, Charles left his father's house, once again quarreling with his father. For almost ten years he traveled across America, writing down his impressions in a notebook, and then transforming them into stories. In 1947, Bukowski married Jane Baker, who, by the way, was 11 years older than the writer. The woman, like Charles, suffered from alcoholism. Their marriage lasted 8 years. His second wife was the editor of a Texas print publication, Barbara Fry. Three years later, the couple divorced - Barbara could not stand the endless binges of her husband.

All this time, Charles did not stop writing stories "on the table", and only by the end of the 60s decided to publish in magazines. And in 1967, he was already a columnist in one of the most famous California newspapers. Bukowski quickly became a popular writer, falling in love with many readers for writing in the style of "dirty realism", talking about his life "without embellishment."

It is not known how many years Charles Bukowski would have worked at the post office if it had not been for the literary agent John Martin, who suggested that Charles sign a contract with him and leave the postal service. Without thinking twice, the writer gave his consent. So, three weeks after that, Bukowski wrote a novel called The Post Office, where he described in detail his years of service in the post office using a humorous style of storytelling and a decent amount of sarcasm and irony. The book was accepted by the readers with a bang. The next novel by the then popular American writer Charles Bukowski was published in 1975 and was called Factotum.

About Charles Bukowski Wikipedia writes that during his rather long career as a poet and writer, he gave the world about two hundred novellas and short stories, and Bukowski is also the author of thirty poetry collections and six novels.
