A British rock band formed in 1985 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, with the recently disbanded Lost Pandas, and performed an indie guitar rock band that critics saw as influencing The Fall, Buzzcocks and Gang of Four. The only permanent member of the group for many years remains its founder David Gedge. Despite the non-commercial nature of the group's work, 20 of its singles and 10 albums were included in the UK Top 50. The highest achievements of the group in the national charts are # 10 (single "Come Play With Me", 1992) and # 13 (album Sea Monsters, 1991). The Wedding Present is considered the most successful (after The Smiths) British indie band of the 1980s, with two albums, George Best (1987) and Tommy (1988), topping the UK Indie Charts.
