About Primal Scream, the world heard with an ear when in 1982 two friends from Glasgow, Jim Beatty (guitarist) and Bobby Gillespie (vocalist) formed a rock band. But in their compositions there were always mixed styles, such as dance rock, indie rock, acid house, psychedelic rock, blues, rock and roll, and they themselves had time to visit both punks and hippies. At that time, besides friends, the members included Robert Young (bass guitar), Tom McGurk (drums), Martin John (percussionist).
At the beginning of 1985 a contract was signed with Creation Records, and in May the first album All Fall Down was released, which did not bring popularity to young experimenters. In 1987, the guys developed a collection of songs Sonic Flower Groove in the style of melodic pop music, and again, it did not have much effect. Disappointed with the result, the guys returned to hard rock. During this period, Jim left the band, and Andrew Inns was invited to take his place, who introduced dance motives to the music.
The first step to success was the single Loaded from the album Screamadelica (1991), which immediately hit the first lines of the British charts. Perhaps it was the merit of the new team members Henry Olsen (bass), Philip Tomanov (drums), Duffy (organ) and Denis Johnson (backing vocals). For this disc, the band finally won the 1992 Mercury Music Prize. 1996 brought a new experience to the guys' everyday life. A film with Primal Scream Trainspotting was released on movie screens, for which they created a soundtrack. In subsequent years, the group was expected to succeed with the songs Kowalski (1997), Swastika Eyes (1999), The Lord Is My Shotgun (2002), and disappointment, since in general the released albums did not have their former glory.
Currently the line-up includes Bobby Gillespie, Simon Butler, Darrin Mooney, Martin Duffy, Andrew Inns. The roles of Primal Scream, as before, are divided among themselves very rigidly - everyone is in his place and does his own thing. The group's thirty years of experience includes 10 albums, each of which was unlike the previous one, the last one was released in 2013 More Light. In 2015, Primal Scream members will officially receive the title of "Icon of Contemporary Music" at the Silver Clef ceremony in London on July 3rd.
