Anathema is a UK rock band. It was formed in 1990 in Liverpool. Initially, the band's style was death-doom metal, but gradually it turned into progressive rock. The last albums of the group were very much influenced by the work of Pink Floyd: they themselves admit that the members of the group sympathize with this group. Death-doom-metal is a style, the founders of which are considered to be Anathema and two other British bands.

The brothers named Kavanagh formed a group. Its origin was initiated by its elder brother, but its first name was Pagan Angel. Now you can watch Anathema during their performances with this line-up: guitarists Vincent and Daniel, bassist Jamie, Darren White - vocalist, John Douglas - drummer.

The first demo of the band was recorded in November 1990 and was called An Iliad Of Woes. Even then, they began to make timid attempts at their own performances and played as an opening act for several famous bands of that time. At that time, the name of the group changed to the present one.

After some time, Jamie left the team, and was replaced by Duncan Patterson, a close friend of the founding brothers. Dani and Duncan were involved in songwriting. Since May 1991, the demo All Faith Is Lost has been added to the list of their works, and 1992 was marked by the appearance of the single They Die.

Now you can listen to online Anathema's first full album, which was recorded in 1992. They have previously recorded a mini version of The Crestfallen, which has received excellent press reviews. The recording of the album prompted a further tour of Cannibal Corpse. But the presentation of the Serenades debut album took place only in February 1993.

The album was accepted with a bang and brought popularity to the young team far beyond the expanses of their hometown, critics praised it positively, MTV took their video for rotation. Serenades took an honorable second place on the Kerrang chart, after which Metal Hammer recognized it as the album of the month.

In 1995 White left the band and became a quartet. Vincent took the place of the main vocalist in the team. Now the team is popular and recognizable. In 2012, Anathema performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra, and a year later the live recording was released on Blu-ray and DVD.
