System Of A Down is an English-speaking musical group performing music in the style of alternative metal / rock. It was founded in 1992 by two musicians of Armenian origin in Los Angeles. They were Daron Malakian and Serge Tankian. At first the group was called Soil, but after three years it adopted its current name, but not immediately. The first idea was to call itself "Victims of the Down" - this is the name of the poem, which was written by Daron, but after careful discussion among musicians, it was decided to replace the first word with "system". One of the reasons, as the musicians later explained, was the desire of Shavo Odadjian (bassist) to place the band on the shelves of music stores closer to the thrash metal band Slayer. After the Soil group was founded by soloist Tankian (keyboards, vocals) and Malakyan (guitar, vocals), they also invited drummer D. Lareno and bass guitarist D. Khakopyan to join it. For three years, having in its arsenal one concert and a jam session, the group broke up due to the desire of new members to leave it. Three years later, Serge and Daron formed SOAD itself, to which E. Khachaturian and Sh. Odadzhyan were invited, who were also of Armenian origin and attended the same Hollywood Armenian school, so familiar to the musicians. Initially, it was planned that Chavo would take over as manager, but was eventually confirmed as bassist.

In the period of 94-97-ies, the young group recorded 4 cassettes with their own songs. In 97, the team was forced to leave Khachaturian, having received a hand injury, which did not allow them to continue to play the drums successfully. D. Dolmayan was appointed to replace Andy.

In the same 97th year, an important contract was signed between the group and producer R. Rubin for the release of the album. The work on recording their first disc called System Of A Down began to boil. The full-length album was released in the summer of 1998 and sold almost a million copies over the course of several years. A characteristic feature of the disc was the dominance of the nu metal style. The songs "Spiders" and "Sugar" were the most successful songs on the album and were constantly performed on the radio. SOAD clips have been shown on MTV quite often. Nowadays you can watch System Of A Down performances on the Internet.

After the successful first album, three years later in 2001, the full-length Toxicity was released, which in style differed little from its predecessor. This album gained the status of multi-platinum, and it was thanks to it that SOAD gained wide popularity in the world. Many reputable publications spoke favorably about the album.

During their musical career, the band released three more albums: Steal This Album! (2002), Mezmerize and Hypnotize (2005). All albums were certified platinum and were at the top of the charts. Now the group successfully performs at concerts and takes part in tours.
