HIM is a popular English-speaking musical group of Finnish origin, playing in the style of gothic rock. The band was born in 1991 by Ville Valo (vocalist), Mikko Paananen (bass guitar) and Mikko Lindstrom (guitar).

It is worth noting that at the beginning of their career the group was called "His Infernal Majesty", which means "His Devil Majesty", but soon the frontman decided to change the name simply to the abbreviation HIM after several incidents related to accusations of promoting Satanism. Also interesting is the fact that for a short period of time the band performed on tour under the name HIM and HER.

Formed in 1991, the band first performed cover versions of songs from Ville's favorite bands Kiss and Black Sabbath. At first, the composition of the ensemble underwent changes in connection with the passage of military service, but the three founders remain in it to this day.

In the early nineties Valo began to create his own personal material for his team. Unfortunately, the first demos titled Other Night Fears and Witches could not be saved. The very first release of the group was a mini-album released in 95th year - "This is Only the Beginning". At that time, the group HIM did not include a drummer, and Ville recorded the drums on the album himself. The recorded demos were sent to the BMG label, after which the band got their first contract to create an album. Initially, a demo album was recorded with the bright title 666 Ways to Love: Prologue, and after that the full-length Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666. The above three albums included a cover of the song Wicked Game by K. Isaac. This cover version, as well as the video shot for it, brought quite wide popularity to the young group.

Subsequent albums only increased the success of the group HIM. The second full-length Razorblade Romance was released in 1999 and held the lead in the German charts for a long time. Then came the less successful Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights, which had a pop-oriented feel.

The most popular and respected is the Love Metal album, released in 2003. As the vocalist explained, the title of the album is the style of music in which the band performs their songs. The album was a resounding success and sold well. Video clips for songs from this full-length album were broadcast on MTV channel. Nowadays, everyone has a great opportunity to watch HIM on the Internet for free and in good quality. Then Dark Light (2005), Venus Doom (2007), Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice (Chapters 1 to 13) (2010) were recorded, which were received with a bang by the fans and admirers of the group. The last full-length album Tears on Tape was released in 2013. By changing labels, the band returned to the sound that was characteristic of early HIM albums.
