The rapidly growing popularity of the group MGMT, which was previously known as The Management, impresses both true fans and critics of its work. But the fact remains unchanged that the talent and success of the musicians does not leave anyone indifferent.
The band was formed at Wesleyan University, where freshmen Van Wingarden and Goldwasser met to mingle and show their musical tastes and interests. In 2004, their first release, We (Don't) Care EP, was released under the stage name The Management. Their rampant experiments with electronics and noise rock nevertheless resulted in a peculiar style, which was later called psychedelic pop.
After graduating from university in 2005, the musicians embarked on a tour with the indie rock band Of Montreal, for which they supported. It should be noted that they performed in support of their new album "Time to Pretend".
The fall of 2007 marked the signing of a contract with Columbia Records, under whose direction they recorded the compositions for the debut album Oracular Spectacular. Continuing touring with Of Montreal, the band soon renewed their lineup. New talents - guitarist Hank Sullivant and drummer James Richardson - have improved the band. However, in March 2008, there were minor changes: instead of James, Will Berman took up drums, and Richardson, in turn, "switched" to the guitar.
When the artists performed on “The Late Show” with the wonderful song “Time to Pretend” and everyone could watch and hear MGMT online, the popularity of the musicians increased dramatically. As a result, this song became the soundtrack for the movie "21". MGMT soon appeared with Time To Pretend and Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
Performing at the Bonnaroo Music festival together with the popular band Radiohead gave impetus to the further development of the musicians. Over the next year, they performed at a huge number of festivals not only in the UK, but also in Europe. The band later embarked on their own tour.
How many years MGMT will still delight us with its high-quality music is unknown, but there are hopes that over time their talent will develop, and popularity will gain more and more momentum.
