April 14, 1928 Kolomna, Moscow Region, RSFSR - August 15, 1997 Moscow, Russian Federation - Soviet director of animated films.

After graduating from high school, he tried to enter the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography, at the department of animation film artists, but did not pass the competition. A year later he entered the Moscow Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts at the Faculty of Sculpture. In 1953, after graduation, he was assigned to work as an artist at the Zagorsk Research Institute of Toys.

Since 1957, he worked at the Soyuzmultfilm film studio in the newly created puppet association as a production designer for puppet films, collaborated with directors Vladimir Degtyarev, Anatoly Karanovich, Theodor Bunimovich, Iosif Boyarsky, Ivan Davydov-Vano, and Roman Ivanov-Vano.

In 1961 he made his directorial debut, staging, together with Iosif Boyarsky, a cartoon based on the fairy tale by S. Marshak “About a goat”. In 1966 he directed the touching cartoon My Green Crocodile on his own.

Taught at VGIK. As a director, he staged mostly puppet films, worked with artists Olga Gvozdeva, Alina Speshneva, Irina Dobronitskaya (Lennikova), Nina Vinogradova, with her daughter Marina Kurchevskaya, Arkady Melik-Sarkisyan and others.
Designed children's performances. He taught drawing lessons at school.

For more than 25 years he hosted the Buratino Exhibition on Central Television. Illustrator in children's publications.
