April 9, 1913, Moscow - September 17, 1988 - Soviet director of animated films.
He graduated from the Moscow Industrial College, but very soon he showed outstanding artistic abilities. In 1932, Davydov won a competition for cartoonists, and in 1934 he graduated from courses for cartoonists at the Krokodil magazine. In 1937 he entered the courses of animators at the Soyuzmultfilm studio and for many years worked as an animator with the leading directors Polkovnikov, Babichenko, Ivanov-Vano, Pashchenko and others.
In 1956, Roman Davydov made his directorial debut. First, in the puppet film "Kolobok" (1956). In 1958 - "Three Bears". In 1966, Davydov began work on the film based on The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. In 1967-1971, a five-part series "Mowgli" was released, which became a landmark work for the entire Soyuzmultfilm studio, which earned high praise from colleagues and the love of the audience. The works of Davydov in the genre of historical and fairytale cartoons "The Childhood of Ratibor", "The Swans of Nepryadva", "The Tale of Evpatiy Kolovrat" are also well known.
