Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1969).
Graduated from the Leningrad Art School in 1937. Participant and invalid of the Great Patriotic War.
After graduating from VGIK (1948), he began working at Soyuzmultfilm as a production designer in films directed by V. Gromov, M. Pashchenko, B. Dezhkin and G. Filippov.
Since 1953 - director of drawn and (mostly) voluminous films. Collaborated with artists V.P. Danilevich, A.P. Kuritsyn and others. Since 1956 he has repeatedly become a member of the Soyuzmultfilm Art Council and the Art Council of the KhPO Puppet Films. He was a member of the board of the puppet studio association (1960), a member of the commission for the development of a technological process for the production of a puppet film (1961)
