Born in New York in 1897, the son of an Italian and an emigrant from Austria. Graduated from Columbia University in 1921. For some time he worked as a film reviewer for the New York Daily News, but in this field he showed himself not very well and was transferred to the sports department. In order to write an article about the famous boxer Jack Dempsey, Galliko asked for a duel with him - the journalist wanted to know what it was like to be knocked down by a heavyweight champion. He lasted two minutes, wrote a brilliant article and became famous throughout America. In 1923, he became sports editor and one of the best sports journalists in the United States. However, since childhood, Galliko dreamed of becoming a writer - and therefore, in addition to articles on sports, he offered stories to Vanity Fair and Saturday Evening Post magazines. In 1936 he moved to Europe and devoted himself to writing. In the early 40s, he suddenly became famous with the release of the touching and fascinating book The Snow Goose. Since then, all of his books are bestsellers. The most famous of them - "Jenny" (1950), "Donkey Miracle" (1952), "Love for Seven Dolls" (1954), "Thomasina" (1957), "Flowers for Mrs. Harris" and "Mrs. Harris Goes to New York "(1960). He wrote a book about Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Paul Galliko himself was a kind patron of animals: he had a big dog and twenty-three cats in his house.
