An American music group that has played California pop-rock in the spirit of The Beach Boys since 1970. By the end of the 1970s, when their most popular recordings came out, led by the best-selling What a Fool Believes (Grammy Award for Best Song of 1979), there was not a trace of rock music in their recordings. The Doobie Brothers continued to release and play pop music with soul elements until their disbandment in 1983. Vocalist Michael McDonald has continued to record in the same style quite successfully. In 1989, the group announced their return to show business.
