American rock band formed in 1969 in Jacksonville, Florida, by guitarist Duane Allman and his brother, keyboardist and vocalist Gregg. The Allman Brothers Band, recognized as "the main architects of Southern rock", used elements of hard, country and blues rock in their music; included lengthy improvisations in concert performances. The Allman Brothers Band, already in 1971 named by Rolling Stone magazine the best American band that emerged in the last five years, received (in 1971-2005) 11 gold and five platinum discs.
