Every heavy metal fan of all generations since the 70s has a recording of the compositions of the British band Judas Priest. The history of its creation looks the most commonplace. Schoolmates Kenneth Downing and Ian Hill, under the influence of Jimi Hendrix's creativity, decided to try their hand too. They were joined by a couple more bosom friends - the result was a group. And on March 16, 1971, she gave her first concert. There were not many spectators, but a start was made.
The name of the group in the second half of the 80s, when it became popular among domestic rockers, was translated as "Jewish priest". But in fact, Judas Priest is a half-curse exclamation like "Damn it!" or "Japanese policeman!" And it is taken from the title of one of the songs by Bob Dylan.
The first album, released in 1974, did not bring the expected success, nevertheless, the band's concerts were more and more frequent, and the musicians had already begun to travel abroad. The second compilation, released a year later, was much more successful and gave the group the opportunity to sign a contract with CBS, one of the major studios that opens up the opportunity to become famous all over the world. Since then, the era of worldwide glory began. The band has released quite a few albums, but the landmark is Judas Priest Painkiller, who was the twelfth in a row. The musicians are reluctant to remember how many years Judas Priest suffered from lack of money. But they got what they wanted.
Around the turn of the century, the band successfully toured around the world, and in 2006 tried to release a concept album about Michelle Nostradamus. It was presented two years later, was a great success, and some compositions were nominated for Grammy. After that, the musicians again organized a world tour.
Interestingly, the band never disbanded despite Downing's departure in 2011. The second founder, Hill, remained and has been serving his beloved business for more than forty years. And other musicians are in the group, although not from the day of foundation, but for a long time. Judas Priest 2015 is touring, releasing albums, and although hard rock has long passed the peak of its popularity, it still has a lot of listeners.
