Born 30 November 1945, Brecon, Wales, UK - British bass player, keyboardist, songwriter and producer. In 1950, Glover's sister Christine was born. In 1955, the Glover family moved to St. Helens, Merseyside. He attended Harrow High School for boys. From the age of 13, Glover became interested in rock music, began to play the guitar. While still in school, he formed his first group - Madisons, which later merged with another local group and formed Episode Six, where he became friends with vocalist Ian Gillan. After Deep Purple members John Lord and Ritchie Blackmore, who were looking for a replacement for Rod Evans, who did not fit into their chosen new style of the group, saw Gillan at one of the Episode Six gigs, they invited him to join their group, replacing Rod. Gillan's audition was successful, and so Gillan joined Deep Purple in the summer of 1969, bringing Glover with him from Episode Six. Years later this line-up became considered to be "classic", the so-called Deep Purple, Mark II (Ian Gillan - vocals, Ritchie Blackmore - guitar, John Lord - keys, Roger Glover - bass, Ian Pace - drums). Glover later recalled that when he met the members of Deep Purple, he was frightened by the gloominess of the members of the new group, who "... wore black and looked very mysterious" .
The first recording in the new group was the Concerto for Group and Orchestra (performed by Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) composed by John Lord, recorded at a concert at the Albert Hall on September 24, 1969. This was followed by "classic" albums: In Rock (1970), Fireball (1971), Machine Head (1972) .
Glover's last album, recorded with Deep Purple in the 70s, was 1973's Who Do We Think We Are (so named because Italians, outraged by the noise level on the farm where the album was recorded, asked the recurring question: “For whom do they accept themselves at all? "). Ever since 1972, the relationship between the band members began to deteriorate, especially between Gillan and Blackmore, who did not tolerate each other at all. And in 1973, the old disagreements within the band were superimposed on the general dissatisfaction with the last album, after which the band members quarreled completely. In December 1972, Deep Purple managers met with John Lord and Roger Glover and asked them to do their best to keep the band together. They persuaded Ian Pace and Ritchie Blackmore to stay, who had already conceived their own project, but Blackmore set a condition for the management: the inevitable dismissal of Glover. The latter, noticing that his colleagues began to shy away from him, demanded an explanation from Tony Edwards, and he (in June 1973) admitted: Blackmore demanded his departure. An angry Glover immediately filed a letter of resignation. After Deep Purple's last concert in Osaka, Japan, on June 29, 1973, Blackmore passed Glover on the stairs and said over his shoulder, "Nothing personal: business is business." Glover took this trouble hard and did not leave the house for the next three months, partly due to aggravated stomach problems. Immediately after Glover left the group, Gillan left the group, after which the group was on the verge of collapse. After recovering, Glover concentrated on producing, producing bands such as Judas Priest, early works by Whitesnake, Nazareth, Michael Schenker Group and Elf. He also recorded 2 solo albums - Butterfly Ball (1974) and Elements (1978), after which, in 1978, unexpectedly for many, he became a member of the Rainbow group - the group of his former Deep Purple colleague Ritchie Blackmore, due to disagreements with which, in fact, in In 1973 he left her
It is not clear why Blackmore changed his mind about Glover and how they managed to forget old grievances, but Glover recorded 5 albums with Rainbow and stayed with it until its demise and Deep Purple reforming in 1984 in the "classic" lineup. Since 1984 Glover has played with Deep Purple again, occasionally releasing solo and side albums. In the years after Deep Purple disbanded, Glover recorded three solo albums, 1974's Butterfly Ball and 1978's Elements. In 1983 he recorded "Mask". After the reunion of Deep Purple, he stopped solo work for a while. In 1988, after the second departure from Gillan's group, Glover recorded the album "Accidentally on Purpose" with him. In 2002 Glover recorded his fourth solo album, "Snapshot". Glover's daughter from her first marriage, Gillian, took part in the recording of this album. In 2011, Glover's fifth solo album, If Life Was Easy, was released. Roger brought in Dan McCafferty and Pete Agnew of Nazareth.
to record it. In March 2012, while in Switzerland, he made the unexpected decision to perform on stage with the Purpendicular, a tribute group Deep Purple.
