Lev Shimelov was born and raised under the hot Azerbaijani sun, received a high-quality classical education at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at Baku State University. And then, as befits physicists, he was drawn to the lyrics. Even in his student years, he plunged headlong into the world of amateur performances - skits, parodies, pantomimes, entertainments. He emerged in 1952, finding himself on the professional stage, which he has not left to this day.
For more than ten years he worked in the Moscow Music Hall, where he was lured from the republican jazz orchestra in Azerbaijan. He became the most famous and popular entertainer of his time, a professional, whose performances, solely because of his presence in concerts, were attended on purpose.
Together with Alexander Levenbuk, he hosted the legendary program "Baby Monitor" (1979-1987), later, at the invitation of his partner, staged the play My Kosher Lady at the Shalom Theater. The production is still going on with success on the theater stage. Lev Shimelov himself recently starred in the play Veselchaki in Russian by the Theater at the Nikitsky Gate.
Films with Lev Shimelov were released in the 70s of the last century. In the short film Smiles of a Dancer (1974), he played a policeman, and in the comedy-adventure film Grandmother was told in two (1979) about the adventures of the popular grandmothers Veronika Mavrikievna and Avdotya Nikitichna appeared in the episode.
