She was born on December 17, 1896 in the village of Spasskoye, Tula province, into a peasant family.
She graduated from the school of dramatic art under the direction of N.G. Alexandrova, N.O. Massalitinov and N.A. Podgorny (1915).
Since 1916 she worked in the 2nd studio of the Moscow Art Theater, since 1924 - the actress of the Moscow Art Academic Theater.
A sharp-tempered actress, she played mainly the roles of elderly women, bringing in her performance the nationality, the warmth of the Russian national character.
She was a master of folk stage speech.
People's Artist of the USSR (1957) .
The actress died on March 23, 1986 in Moscow. She was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery of the capital.
