The German rock band Helloween was formed in 1984 in Hamburg. The original name is the homophone of Halloween, hence the band's mascot, the pumpkin head. The letter "a" was replaced by "e" (hell - in English hell). Such a play on words. But the founders of the group also differed in their musical play. It is believed that it was they who became the founders of such a direction as power metal. However, before the musicians first performed under the name under which they became known throughout the world, each of them tried himself in music before.
Kai Hansen, Ingo Schwichtenberg, Michael Weikath and Markus Grosskopf - this was the first line-up of the group. It is interesting that the last two to this day steadfastly bear the burden of the grandfathers of hard rock. Yes, the group did not break up, although it changed vocalists. Helloween of 2015 continues to perform quite successfully and record albums, although most of them are collections of old hits with small interspersed with new songs.
The second half of the 80s of the last century was marked by a sharp rise in hard rock. A few pages will not be enough to list all the performers popular at that time. But Helloween also did not stand aside and became a rather popular group, thanks to the composition of the same name. And the first full-length album Walls of Jericho, released in 1985, quickly gained popularity. And the second album - Keeper of the seven keys - became megapopular. In total, during their long career, the musicians have released about thirty albums and collections. Although not all of them became hits, Helloween won a place of honor in the rock encyclopedia.
Interestingly, the musicians were never afraid to experiment. Despite the fact that they are considered the founders of power metal, it is difficult to find directions in which they would not try. If you listen, for example, to such compositions as Ride the sky and A tale that wasn't right, it's hard to believe that they are performed by the same musician.
