Born 1966 in Galway, Ireland.
He was educated at Gormanston College, County Meath and then Trinity College Dublin, where he received his Ph.D. in metaphysics.
For twenty-five years he taught English in Africa, Japan and South America.
Bruen's work includes the successful trilogy White, as well as the novel The Guards (2001), for which the writer received a Shamus Award .
Other works by the author include such works as "The Killing of the Tinkers" (2002), "The Magdalen Martyrs" (2003), "The Dramatist", "Priest" (2006) and many others.
He made his film debut with a screenplay for the television film "The Guards" (2010). Based on his novels, the films "The Bodyguard" (2010) and "Without Compromise" (2011) were filmed.
