Michael Fassbender was born on April 2, 1977 in Heidelberg, Germany. The actor's mother is Irish, his father is German. According to the Fassbender family tree, the actor's mother is the great-niece of the Irish revolutionary Michael Collins. In 1979, the family moved to Killarney, where Michael's father opened the West End House and worked there as a chef.

Fassbender's first role was that of Sergeant Burton Christenson in the hit miniseries "Brothers in Arms" .
