Born October 5, 1943, St Albans, Hertfordshire, England, UK - English writer and producer.
In his youth, he dreamed of becoming an actor, like his parents, and became a school teacher, albeit for a short time. The delivered voice and the lack of fear of large audiences came in handy in the future.
In 2003-2005 he was elected as an English children's writer-laureate. In 2001 and 2004, his best books "Kensuke Kingdom" and "Private Peaceful" were published. In 2007 his novel "War Horse" was staged with incredible success in London, and then on Broadway, collecting 5 Tony awards, including for the best play.
Books of Morpurgo were published even in HarperCollins, but in modest circulation of 2 thousand copies, and he himself was at that time much better known not as the author of children's books, but as the head of the charity organization "Farms for City Children".
