1894-1982 - American film director, screenwriter. First (from 1936 to 1939) President of the Directors Guild of America. Born in Galveston, Texas. After leaving school, he ran away from home. At first, he worked as a ticket clerk in cinema, then tried and mastered all the cinematographic professions - from film developer, projectionist, cameraman and actor to director-editor. A year later he returned home, from where his parents sent him to study at the Military Academy. In 1915 he came to Hollywood, where he first worked in newsreels. In 1918 he directed his first feature film "The Turn of the Road". In 1926, K. Vidor's film "The Big Parade" appeared on the screen, which was staged at the expense of an independent company.
In 1928 the film The Crowd was released. Between “The Grand Parade” and “The Crowd,” the director staged two run-of-the-mill entertainment films.
King Vidor was one of the first American filmmakers to get involved in sound film production. His first sound production was "Hallelujah"; for the first time in Hollywood, it featured real African Americans. From 1915 to 1926 the director was married to the actress Florence Widor, and from 1926 to 1931 he was married to the actress Elinor Boardman, who bore him two daughters.
