September 15, 1907 - August 8, 2004 - American actress best known for her performance as Ann Darrow in King Kong (1933) .
Her family moved to the United States when Faye was three years old - first to Arizona and Utah, and then to Los Angeles. She starred in episodic roles in films since 1919. She gained fame after starring in Erich von Stroheim's The Wedding March (1928). Once in the category of "stars", she starred in a number of films, where her partners were Gary Cooper, Ronald Colman, Fredrik March, William Powell, Richard Arlen.
In 1928, Faye Ray married playwright and screenwriter John Monk Sanders, whom she divorced in 1939. The peak of her career was marked by the performance of the role of Ann Darrow in the film King Kong (1933), which made her one of the iconic characters in the history of mainstream cinema, the Kong girl. In the wake of this popularity, Faye Rae also starred in several minor horror films in the first half of the 1930s. Subsequently, she received roles mainly in low-budget productions. She stopped acting in films in 1942, after marrying screenwriter Robert Riskin. After Riskin's death in 1955, she returned to the cinema for a while, but finally parted ways with her film career in 1958. The actress wrote several unsuccessful plays, as well as her autobiography On the Other Side (1989) .
In 2004, director Peter Jackson offered Faye Rae a small role in the new King Kong - she was supposed to deliver the final line. She refused at first. Despite this, Jackson hoped to achieve her consent, however, on August 8 of the same year, Faye Rae died in her sleep at the age of 96 in her apartment in Manhattan. Nevertheless, she is still mentioned in the film - Karl Danham, in a conversation with Preston, ends with her name the list of actresses whom he would like to invite for filming - and the film ends with a dedication to her. Two days after her death, in memory of the actress, all lighting on the Empire State Building was extinguished for 15 minutes. For her contributions to the American film industry, Faye Rae was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
