Born May 23, 1947, Anshan, Liaoning, China - Hong Kong actress, director, screenwriter, producer, a prominent representative of the new wave of Hong Kong cinema.
At the age of five, she moved with her parents to Macau and then to Hong Kong. She graduated from the Catholic School for Girls, the University of Hong Kong (1972), studied at the London Film School for two years, and defended her diploma in the work of Robbe-Grillet. Back in Hong Kong, she worked as an assistant for King Hu. Filmed TV series and documentaries on acute social issues for Television Broadcasts Limited (TBL) and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK). She shot her first full-length feature film in 1979. Since 1981 she has been acting as an actress, including in her own films.
