September 10, 1898 - April 26, 1986 - American film actress. Popular during the silent film era.
As a teenager, she and her parents moved to Los Angeles. Since her family was in need of funds, the girl, at the insistence of her mother, found a job at the Biograph Studios and in 1915 she made her film debut in the short film Georgia Pers .
Pretty soon, director and producer D.W. Griffith drew attention to her and insisted that Juanita take the pseudonym - "Bessie Love". At first, like many other debutantes, the actress got supporting roles, but since 1916 she began to periodically star in the lead roles together with the stars of those years - for example, with Douglas Fairbanks in the films The Mystery of the Flying Fish and Reggie Intervenes ( both - 1916) .
In the silent film era, Bessie was a success. She starred in more than seventy films, in 1922 she entered the WAMPAS Baby Stars list, where promising young actresses were selected annually, and in 1925, for the first time in her performance, the audience saw the newfangled Charleston dance on the movie screen (in the romantic comedy The King on Main Street ") .Gruvemuvestart In 1929, she married William Hawkes, brother of director and producer Howard Hawks, and made her talkie debut the same year, starring in the musical Broadway Melody .
Despite the fact that Bessie was nominated for an Oscar for her role in this film, her sonic career did not last long. In 1931, she retired from the cinema, and four years later divorced Hawkes (in 1932, in marriage with him, she gave birth to a daughter, Patricia) and moved to the UK. During World War II, Bessie, like many other actresses, attended army units with concerts. In the 1940s, she returned to the cinema and from time to time appeared on the screen, though now in secondary and episodic roles. The actress continued to work even into old age - for example, she can be seen in the English drama by John Schlesinger "Sunday Damned Sunday" (1971), in "Red" by Warren Beatty and "Ragtime" by Milos Forman (both released in 1981).
Bessie Love passed away on April 26, 1986 in London at the age of eighty-eight. She was subsequently honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
