Monique - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, Actress, Producer.

Born December 11, 1967, Woodlone, Maryland is an American actress, comedian, and producer.

Graduated from Milford Mill High School in Baltimore and Morgan State University. Graduated from the Maryland Broadcasting Institute in 1987.

Before starting her acting career, Monique worked as a telephone operator. She achieved success with her starring role on UPN's sitcom Parkers, where she starred from 1999 to 2004. Since then, she has starred in several African-American films, prior to her success with a role in Treasure. In 2009, she launched her own show on BET. The project was closed in 2011.

In 2010, Monique won an Oscar and many other awards for her portrayal of the malevolent mother of the protagonist, portrayed by Gaburi Sidibe in Lee Daniels's Treasure. Nevertheless, after that, Monique did not appear on the screens for the next five years. In a 2015 interview, she stated that she received only fifty thousand dollars for her role in the film, and the film's production studio Lionsgate refused to pay for her trip to Cannes during its advertising campaign. Because of this, Monique gained fame as a problematic actress in her work, which cost her roles in Hollywood. Lee Daniels, however, offered her the role of wife in The Butler and grandmother in a bypik about the life of Richard Pryor. Both roles eventually went to Oprah Winfrey.

In 2014, Monique played the religious mother of a gay teen in the independent film Blackbird. She also starred with Queen Latifa and Handy Alexander in the HBO biopic Bessie about the life of Bessie Smith, playing Ma Rainey. The role earned her critical acclaim and an Emmy nomination. Shortly thereafter, Monique returned to the big screen with a role in the Universal Pictures comedy drama Myers' Christmas opposite Kimberly Elise and Gabrielle Union.
