February 21, 1934 - June 3, 2010 - American actress.
She made her stage debut in 1957 at one of the local theaters in Pennsylvania. From the same year, she began appearing on theater stages in New York, but only made her Broadway debut in 1969. The actress became famous for the role of Caroline Jones in the soap opera "Underworld" in 1970. From 1970 to 1978, McClanaghan played Vivian Harmon on Maud .
The most famous and recognized actress brought the role of Blanche Devereaux, the owner of the house where Dorothy Zbornak (Bee Arthur), Rose Nylund (Betty White) and Sauvia Petrillo (Estelle Getty), the heroine of the popular sitcom Golden Girls, lived. Roo McClanaghan starred in the series from 1985 to 1992, winning an Emmy in 1987 for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. An animal rights activist and vegetarian, McClanaghan became one of the first celebrities to support People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). As a Democrat, in December 2003, she wrote in a letter to US Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry that his pheasant hunt cost him his voice and the respect of the actress. In 2007 she published her autobiography - "My first five husbands ... and those who passed by."
